Low seasons for this business run from May to December. However, you can get to work all year if you manage to get a few businesses as your clients. Low and high seasons mainly only apply to individual clients. Before you even start to look for tips on how to start a tax preparation business, you need to consider your educational and professional experience and qualifications. Tax preparations involve a lot of accounting work. You have to be good with mathematics. You will also need to have at least basic book keeping skills. It is also good to be conversant with some of the tax laws. You have to be able to gain the confidence of your clients. You will not be able to do this if at all you appear clueless about this line of business. As a marketing strategy, you can offer people some guidance and information about taxes. This will help you gain their trust and they will give you more business. If you don’t have any form of training then this should be your starting point. Read widely and learn as much as possible. If you can take some classes then do so. There is no way that you will succeed especially if you don’t even know anything about basic accounting. Although you don’t need to make any deposits to anyone so as to start this type of investment, you do need to have some equipment. You need a good working computer, good internet connection, a printer and a fax machine. You will also need to have communication equipments that clients can reach you on. It’s not good to use your cell phone for this. If possible, get a different phone for work. You also have to buy some office supplies like stationeries. Once you have learned how to start a tax preparation business, the next step will be to get a good working area. You don’t necessarily need an office but you need a good workspace. This should be somewhere quiet and free from distraction. Tax preparation is a delicate task and distractions may make you make mistakes that can cost you the business.
